Erythema Multiforme Treatment with TCM

Erythema Multiforme is an inflammatory eruption characterized by symmetric erythematous lesions of the skin or mucous membranes. It's onset is usually sudden with macules, papules and vesicles appearing most commonly on the dorsum of the hand and feet, face, limbs and sometimes eye's.

Erythema Multiforme is most commonly seen in women in either the winter or spring.

The eruptions can be induced by certain drugs and sea food. The eruptions will be watery and are red, swollen and have a 'rainbow' like macule color.

The patient may feel a burning pain with itching, fever, headache, sore throat and depending on local area of the rash it may cause blindness (eye), breathing impairment (nose) or urinary/defecating disorders (perineum).

Wind Cold - Gui Zhi Tang Damp Heat - Long Dan Xie Gan Tang Toxic Fire - Pu Ji Xiao Du Yin

EXTERNAL Treatment:

San Huang Tang Wash (Huang Lian, Huang Bai, Da Huang) Add Qing Dai Cream after wash Add Ci Gui Xiong if ulcerated

 

Erythema Nodosum  -  An inflammation response (allergic reaction) of the deep dermis layer and subcutaneous fatty layer characterized by tender red nodules mostly found on the lower limbs. Eruptions can be either red or purple and are most common in young females in spring or fall. The inflammation usually starts with superficial symptoms of a headache and joint aches before the eruptions begin.

INTERNAL Treatment:

Damp Heat - Acute -beginning stage, headache, joint pain, bright red eruptions with pain and constipation.

Herbal Formula: San Miao San -severe superficial symptoms + Jing Jie, Jie Geng, Niu Bang Zi -joint pain + Qiang Hou, Wei Ling Xian, Mu Gua -lower limb swelling + Chi Xiao Dou, Bei Xie, Fang Ji, Dong Gua Pi

 

Blood Stasis - Chronic - purple eruptions with hard nodules, distended pain effecting lower limbs with a heavy sensation and a dark tongue
