The functions of this Chinese medicine formula are to promote Qi circulation, direct rebellious Qi downwards while expanding the chest and eliminating clumping. This TCM herbal formula is best suited in conditions of Liver Qi stagnation due to emotional upsets. The liver Qi stagnation will rebel upwards causing irritability and stifling sensation in the chest. The constrained liver Qi may also attack the lungs or spleen giving rise to other symptoms.

Ren Shen  (Radix Ginseng, Ginseng Root) - 3g.

Bing lang  (Semen Arecae Catechu, Betel Nut, Areca Seeds) - 9g.
-promote Qi circulation, eliminate irritability
Chen Xiang  (Lignum Aquilariae, Aloeswood, Aquilaria) - 3g.
-directs Qi downwards, promotes smooth flow of Qi, stops wheezing
Wu Yao  (Radix Linderae Strychnifoliae, Lindera Root) - 9g.
-promotes liver Qi circulation
Preparation Instructions of Si Mo Tang
When preparing this Chinese medicine formula all the ingredients should be ground into a fine powder to release their full fragrant properties. A Draft should be made using water in a bowl and brought to a boil three to five times. The formula is generally taken warm.
