Main Actions for Ren Shen Ge Jie San

The functions of this TCM herbal formula are to tonify the Qi, clear heat, transform phlegm and to stop coughing and wheezing.  This chinee medicine formula is best suited in conditions of lung Qi deficiency with lung heat.  Ren Shen Ge Jie San generally treats chronic persistent coughs which has distention and fullness in the diaphragm.  As the deficiency of the lungs impairs the spleen dampness accumulates and is then stored in the lungs as damp phlegm.

Indications and Symptoms for Ren Shen Ge Jie San

chronic cough, chronic wheezing, thick yellow sputum, coughing up of pus and or blood, heat sensation in the chest, irritability in the chest, facial edema, gradual emaciation

Tongue – purple, thin coat (greasy)

Pulse – floating, deficient

Medicinal Ingredients of Ren Shen Ge Jie San

Ge Jie (Gecko, Gecko) 1 pair

-tonify kidney yin, stops wheezing

Ren Shen   (Radix Ginseng, Ginseng Root) - 60g.

-tonify yuan Qi, strengthen lung and spleen Qi

Fu Ling   (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos, China-root, Poria, Hoelen) - 60g.

-tonify spleen Qi, drains dampness

Sang Bai Pi   (Cortex Mori Albae Radicis, Mulberry Root Bark, Morus Bark) - 60g.

-regulates lung Qi, direct rebel Qi downwards

Xing Ren   - (Semen Pruni Armeniacae, Apricot Seed or Kernel) 150g.

-regulates lung Qi, direct rebel Qi downwards

Chuan Bei Mu   (Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae, Tendrilled Fritillaria Bulb, Fritillaria) - 60g.

-clear heat, moisten lungs, transform phlegm

Zhi Mu   (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae Asphodeloidis, Anemarrhena Rhizome) - 60g.

-clears lung heat, nourish kidney

Zhi Gan Cao   (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, Licorice Root) - 150g.

-harmonize other herbs within formula, tonify yuan Qi

Preparation Instructions of Ren Shen Ge Jie San

This herbal formula has all it’s ingredients into a fine powder.  It is taken in 3-6 gram doses with warm water 2 times per day on an empty stomach.

This formula has been primarily used in treating chronic cough due to lung Qi deficiency with heat signs.  Ren Shen Ge Jie San is able to treat such diseases as bronchial asthma, asthmatic bronchitis, chronic bronchitis, emphysema and pulmonary tuberculosis.
