The functions of this TCM herbal formula are to warm the middle jiao while strengthening the spleen and stomach. This chinese medicine formula is best suited in conditions of deficiency of yang causing cold stagnation in the middle jiao.
Indications and Symptoms for Li Zhong Wan
diarrhea, watery stools, nausea, vomiting, no thirst, no appetite, abdominal pain

Medicinal Ingredients of Li Zhong Wan
Gan Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Officinalis, Dried Ginger Rhizome, Ginger) - 9g.
-warms the middle jiao, tonify yang, eliminates interior cold
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, Ginseng Root) - 9g.
-tonify Qi, aids ascending / descending functions of the middle jiao, transforms dampness
Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractyloids Macrocephaelae, Atractylodes Rhizome (white)) - 9g.
-tonify spleen and stomach, dries dampness
Zhi Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, Licorice Root) - 9g.
-tonify middle jiao Qi, harmonize other herbs within the formula
Preparation Instructions of Li Zhong Wan
This Chinese Medicine herbal formula is prepared by grinding all herbal ingredients into a fine powder and formed into pills using honey. The pills should be taken 3 times per day in 9 gram doses with warm water. Due to the expense of Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, Ginseng Root) Dang Shen (Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae) is usually used to replace Ren Shen within the formula using 2-3 times the dosage of Ren Shen.

When the appropriate symptoms are present this herbal formula is able to treat such diseases as chronic gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcers, gastroptosis, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic colitis, chronic bronchitis, oral herpes and functional uterine bleeding.
This alternative medicine formula should not be used where there is an underlying yin deficiency due to it’s warming and drying nature.
