Medicinal Ingredients of Ba Zheng San

Mu Tong (Caulis Mutong, Akebia Caulis) - 3-6g.

-clears heat, promotes urination, aids removal of dampness when stagnated

Hua Shi (Talcumn, Talcum) - 12-30g.

-clear damp heat, promotes urination, relieves irritablity

Che Qian Zi (Semen Plantaginis, Plantago Seeds) - 9-15g.

-clear damp heat, promotes urination

Qu Mai (Herba Dianthi, Aerial Parts of Chinese Pink) - 6-12g.

-clear damp heat, promotes urination

Bian Xu (Herba Polygoni Avicularis, Knotweed, Polygonum) - 6-12g.

Preparation Instructions of Ba Zheng San

This Chinese Medicine herbal formula should have all of its ingredients ground into a fine powder and taken in 9 gram doses as a draft. Each dosage should be taken with Deng Xin Cao (Medulla Junci Effusi).

Additional Points on Ba Zheng San

This herbal formula is generally used when there is heat in the heart channel (related to the small intestine) which gives rise to the above symptoms and a scorched throat with severe thirst, irritability, red eyes, painful eyes and parched lips. Other symptoms alleviated from this formula are mouth and tongue sores (heart heat) and nose bleeds. Although this formula is best known for it’s urinary tract infection treatment all UTI’s are not due to damp heat in which case this formula should not be prescribed.
