Lyme Disease???
A friend of mine who is an allopathic physician has called me regarding his 17 year old niece. She started getting ill approx 2.5 years ago. Physically she looks very fragile and thin. (not emaciated) but only 100 pounds on her 5 5 frame... her bones on her shoulders are bruised, as are her knees. She has soft phlegm nodules in her groin about 2.5cm and in her right axilla...she has poor ambulation and alot of weakness in her legs...as well as her hands she holds them in, and has lost the dexterity and strength in her hands...she is very weak and very tired.. Her skin it taut and shiny...like raynouds...or sclerderma...and has features of all these diseases .. In fact there is a disease name that does in include all these features but the helathcare system did not provide her with a diagnoisis. She has gone thru a battery of tests and the bc infectious disease specialist will not give her a diagnosis as Lyme disease as we know the treatment is 2 weeks of iv antibiotics, my physician friend feels that her presentation is not definitive and therefore, no medical specialist will diagnose her.
Apparantly they had a naturopathic test done in the states that confirmed the presence of lyme disease but the Bc Healthcare system does not recognize the test. She also informed me of an enlarged spleen...pulse is fast thin...tongue pale on the sides slightly red with a very very thin coating on the posterior third and was slightly yellow. No red tip no "raspberries" per se
I only got to see her briefly as she lives in another city (Victoria) and was on her way to catch the ferry...She is too weak for acupuncture and with some consultation within our clinic we put her on a large spectrum pellet form herbs which is featured in Henry Lu s 2001 herbal formula book which treats "post polio" diseases...very nourishing for the tendons and sinews as her biggest complaint is that she cannot walk that well.
At this time I m looking to recommend her to someone in Victoria that does both herbs and acupuncture. Also I ve heard that there is a Lyme disease Specialst in Bellingham however I wasn t provided with a name. In the meantime I m open to any and all suggestions. We are keeping in touch with her with the formula, hoping it will help her strength.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I know of at least one doctor in BC who specialized in Lyme disease. Also, Andrew Taylor (andrewrt@shaw.ca) who is a Dr.TCM has some experience. Contact him and maybe ask him to pose the info on this post so others can benefit too.... share grow connect.

Thanks Lorne, I know Andrew I took his Injection therapy courses. I m hoping to find someone on the island, as it s difficult for her to get back to the mainland for treatments.
In the meantime I ll get in touch with him and see what he can offer and get him to post online.
