Hi Dana
Thanks for posting this
Interesting follow up to their first paper
If anyone wants to read the original study there is free access to it via the BMJ online

Elden H, (2005) Ladfors l, Fagevik Olsen M, Ostaard H, Hagberg H.
“Effects of acupuncture and stabilising exercises as adjunct to standard
treatment in pregnant women with pelvic girdle pain: randomised single
blind controlled trailâ€. British Medical Journal;330(7494):761.
It is worth noting that only 125 women had the acupuncture so as they say in the conclusion
“ the study was of insufficient size to exclude negative effects on preterm deliveryâ€
It does raise interesting questions as they used LI 4 and BL 60 on all women and then Ahi shu points of BL 31 – 33 on certain women – with strong stimulation stimulating the needles every ten minutes
- do we need to be concerned about the so called forbidden points?
Or does it mean that these points may be more likely to trigger labour in certain women and at specific times (they only treated women from 12 – 31 weeks)
It wasn’t convincing enough for me to change my practice – but then so many other points that work so well for this condition !
