Fungal Infection Treatment with Chinese Herbal Medicine

Tineo Capitis - Mycoses - Fungal Infection -Bai Tu Chuang

Tinea capitis is ringworm of the scalp and mainly effects children. The onset is usually sublte and begins with flaking dandruff which is gray or white. The local hair will be brittle, dry and easily broken.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tinea Capitis is damp heat

Treatment of Tinea Capitis:

INTERNAL Treatment 

Herbal Formula: Yin Chen Hao Tang or Huang Lian Jie Du Tang Herbs used Internal and External: Yin Chen Hao, Pu Gong Yin, Ku Shen, Ku Lian Pi, Da Huang

EXTERNAL Treatment:

Shave whole area of effected head and apply herbs - Yi Shao Guang or Liu Huang Gao (sulfer)

 

Tinea Favus - Mycoses - Fungal Infection - Fei Chuang

Tinea favus is severe ringworm of the scalp. It begins with redness and slowly progress's to a sore scab. It will then penetrate the scalp deeply leaving scaring and permanent damage including hair loss. The effected area will look waxy, oily, yellow and thick greasy. It will also be accompanied by a strong odour somewhat similar to that of 'rat feces' as well as chunky flaking or yellow tissue. 

Chinese Medicine of Tinea Favus - Toxic Damp Heat

Treatment:

INTERNAL Treatment:  Expel wind and eliminate fungus and detoxify -Ku Shen Wan Herbs - Yi Ju Hua, Lian Qiao, Ban Bian Lian, Ban Zhi Lian

EXTERNAL External Treatment: Shave entire head Wash every day with ce bai ye or grape fruit seed extract, tea tree oil, … Apply herbs after washing - Yi Shao Guang or Liu Huang Gao (sulfer cream)

 

Tinea Pedis - Mycoses - Athletes Foot - Hong Kong Foot

Ulcer like eruptions which turns into itchy blisters. When the blisters burst they will become dry, cracked and dead tissue will flake off. There will be painful thick dry skin which resembles 'goose flesh'. This pattern will be worse in the summer and fall due to the heat and dryness of the season.

Chinese Medicine Treatment of Tinea Pedis

- damp heat accumulation in the spleen and stomach

Wind Damp - blisters, flaking skin, itchiness, worse in summer

Herbal Formula: San Miao Wan - + Fang Feng + Bai Xian Pi + Di Fu Zi

 

Wind Heat - ulceration, strong itch, strong odor, watery b er discharge

EXTERNAL Treatment of Tinea Pedis - Soak feet - Ban Zhi Lian Dry feet after soak with powder - Jing Jie B ers - Tu Jing Pi tincture Yellow discharge - Qing Dai cream Useful herbs (Chamomile Cream, Arnica Cream, Hemp Cream)

 

Tinea Urgium - Mycoses - Fungal Infection Ringworm infection found around nails. Long term use of western medicine drugs may cause this disorder. The nail will thicken, become lustreless and begin to collect debris underneath it.

Treatment of Tinea Urgium:

Liver Blood or Liver Yin deficiency:

Herbal Formula: Dang Gui Bu Xie Tang

EXTERNAL Treatment: 

Remove effected area around nail (do not bleed the nail or the infection may go deeper)

Herbal Formula: -Hong You Gao - more for dry cracks -put effected hand in smoking herbs -soak - soy milk + Chuan Jiao + Tou Gu Cao
