Dai Xia Bing – Vaginal Discharge (leukorrhea)

Diagnosis of Vaginal Discharge:

Normally there is small, unnoticeable amounts of discharge if the Kidney is strong and the Spleen is transforming and transporting properly.

Discharge is also regulated by Ren and Dai. Regular discharge has no color (clear white), no odor, and is slightly sticky. around ovulation and late Luteal phase there is slightly more, also during pregnancy.

Abnormal Discharge is if the amount is and the density, color and odor is noticeable.

White color, may be large amount, thin or thick, cottage cheese or frothy.

Yellow color, amount may be small or large, strong odor, thin or thick (ulcers or inflammation). Red color, pale red, large or small amount, thick or thin, pain/inflamed in the vaginal area, has odor.

White and Red, thick sticky, with odor (cervical problems, cancer, cysts etc).Pus, large amount, strong odor, may contain blood.

Mixed pus/white/red/yellow or colors appear separately.

Differentiate Vaginal Discharge

– over-sexually stimulated.  - Metrorrhagia.

Etiology (causes) of Vaginal Discharge:

1. Spleen  Qi deficiency  - over work, poor diet, liver attack Spleen lose T and T of fluids stagnation and accumulation turbid dampness retained in low Jiao injures Ren and Dai (consolidate and bind) = discharge.(KI Qi or Yang may also impair SP)

2. Kidney Yang - age, sickness, congenital weakness Ming Men fire Kidney can’t steam and transform dampness damp/cold accumulates retained in low Jiao Kidney Qi can’t control the gates = discharge.

3. Kidney Yin - aging, chronic illness, Liver Fire impairs Ren and Dai = discharge. When Kidney Yin it is easy to be invaded by damp/heat in low Jiao impairs Ren and Dai = discharge.

4. Damp/Heat – a) Spleen dampness stagnation turns into heat. b) Liver attack Spleen then dampness and Qi stagnation turn into heat damp/heat = discharge. c) greasy sweet spicy foods and alcohol turn into damp/heat.

5. External Causes – live in Damp environment, summer-heat w/ damp, lower limb infection is damp/heat which can follow the meridians upward into the low Jiao.

6. Toxic Heat with Dampness – poor surgery, certain suppositories may irritate, tampons, sex toys, poor hygiene all can give rise to Ø damp/heat = discharge.

Principle of Treatment – eliminate damp, strengthen Spleen (do not use dry hot herbs).

Chinese Medicine Differentiation and Treatment of Vaginal Discharge

1. Spleen Qi Deficiency - white, large amount, thick, sticky, no odor Plus – Spleen symptoms T-pale

Principle of Treatment: – strengthen and ascend Spleen Yang Qi to transform dampness

Acupuncture points – Ren 6, Bladder 30, Gall bladder 26, Bladder 20 and Spleen 6 - poor digestion- Ren 12, Stomach 25 - low limb edema- Spleen 9, Stomach 36

2. Kidney Yang Deficiency - large amount, egg white (clear sticky), or watery Plus – Kidney Yang symptoms T-pale P-weak

Principle of Treatment: – nourish Kidney Yang – consolidate essence

Acupuncture points – Bladder 23, Du 4, Ren 4, Gall bladder 26 and Bladder 32, Stomach 36 - abdominal cold pain- Moxa Zi Gong, Ren 3

3.Kidney Yin deficiency - may be pink-red with white, thick, dry burning around vagina Plus – Kidney Yin symptoms T-red, no coat P-thin rapid

Principle of Treatment: – nourish Kidney Yin – clear heat

Acupuncture points – Bladder 23 and Kidney 3, Spleen 6, Bladder 32 and Gall bladder 26 (stop discharge) - dizziness, palpitation, insomnia- Liver 3, Heart 7

Herbal Medicine Formula: Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan w/ external Damp/Heat add Yi Ren, Cang Zhu, Bei Xie - minus Shan Zhu Yu

4. Damp/Heat – large amount, yellow (w/ pink-red), thick, strong odor, side abdominal pain, dislike touch, may have burning vagina Plus – damp/heat Lin, constipation, loose stool T – red, damp coat P- slippery rapid

1. Trichomonas vaginalis (protozoa) - frothy grey bubble – white discharge w/ odor, itchy, red dots on area.

2. Candida Albicans (fungi) - cottage cheese, sticky, very itchy, white layer covers area.
