I live on the West coast and have been using Kamwo pharmacy from New York to order vacuum packed herbs. I love that pharmacy except that it takes forever for the herbs to get here (unless patients pay large shipping price ). Does anyone know of a pharmacy on the West coast that has the same service as Kamwo?
Vacuum Packed Herbs on West coast?
I order my fresh herbs from a place in Koreatown, LA. Well known, awesome quality and price.
I used to order custom decoctions as well and they can ship directly to your patients. I seriously recommend buying a decoction/packing machine if your making more than 2 a week.
Powdered herbs I use NSD herbal, they do not have a website but they have awesome quality and prices as well. For example: Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang is $18 for 200g.

I was referring to bulk herbs that are cooked in pressure machines and vacuum packed, like it's done in Chinese hospitals. Patient just opens the little bag and drinks the decoction.
Thanks
Yes, I understood you.
There are a few places in Koreatown, Los Angeles that will cook and package the herbs for you and send the decoction directly to you (or your patient).
However, I recommend buying the packing/cooking machines if your selling more than 2-3 weekly.
Can you write in Korean or Chinese?
I live on the east coast, but a couple of my colleagues in L.A. recently mentioned a new pharmacy called Fat Turtle. They prepare, deliver or ship the vacuum packed herbal formulas. Fat Turtle has a website and a fan page on Facebook.
Hi all,
I don't want to appear to be posting an advertisement, but yes, Fat Turtle Herb Company is based in Los Angeles and we make the pre-cooked vacuum packs. If you're interested please take a look at our website, www.fatturtleherbs.com.
My name is Jonah, I'm the president and also a practitioner - I just graduated from Yosan in 2009 and passed the CA boards in August.
Thanks!

Hi Jonah,
Quick question for you. We read the following on your site "We also sell to other medical professionals and directly to the public at our discretion." Do you have a recommended retail price? If a patient from a practitioner comes back to you on their own and ask you to refill their prescription do you? Just curious about the logistics of your operations. It would look poorly on the practitioner if they came back to you or maybe they tell a friend to come to you and then learn that their practitioner was more expensive than Fat turtle. You being the wholesaler it is likely you can offer much better prices.
Also, how does someone from the public know how to prescribe themselves a custom formula?
We think raw and pressure cookers will take off over the next decade and become the popular choice of prescriptions so great job for being a head of the curve.
What is your “winning formula†so all involved; you, patients and practitioners benefit. Please help us understand better as we are sure you have thought this through.
Sorry it's taken me so long to respond - I'm so used to facebook letting me know whenever a thread's been updated! These are excellent questions and I don't want to give the impression I've been ignoring them.
Refills are by practitioner approval only, just as at a regular pharmacy. Some practitioners choose to pre-authorize one or two refills, especially for chronic conditions where the formula is being used for maintenance. The vast majority of practitioners change their formulas every time, in accordance with diagnosis, signs and symptoms, so most do not authorize refills. Just last week a customer called to refill a formula, so I called the practitioner to double check this was okay (sometimes practitioners will tell their patients just to call us and get a refill without letting us know). In this case, the practitioner had not authorized a refill and was grateful that we had called. She then contacted the patient directly.
For people who come to us without a prescription, we direct them to a licensed practitioner or do a telephone consultation, which take about half an hour and includes getting pictures of their tongue (I'm a licensed acupuncturist myself).
