Difficult case

Hello,

I am hoping to get some opinions on a case I am struggling with.

I am treating a lady who originally presented with lower back and knee pain,  cold body temperature, especialy hands and feet, pale skin, pale swollen tooth marked tongue, deep weak and slow pulse.

And it is obvous that this is a clear case of spleen qi and kidney yang deficiency, and  I treated the problem accordingly. I used acupuncture, herbs and physical treatments, I have cleared the back and knee pain, her body temperature warmed up nicely, BUT, the problem  is after a length of time on any warming formula or herb, the sides of her tongue become angry red and some peeled patches on the body, and her pulse becomes wiry and rapid.

Any length of time without herbs and her body becomes cold, feet and back get stiff. My problem is finding a suitable formula which won't cause too much internal heat but will also keep her warm enough. so far I have used:

Shi Chuan Da Bu - This had the best effect on the quality of her pulse

Jin Gui Shen qi - this caused a lot of heat

Du Huo Ji Sheng - this was good for body temp and jiont problems

Blue Poppy's Kidney Mansion - this was very effective for temp and physical symptoms.

currently taking  China Med menopause 1 formula, which tonifies kidney yang and essence, and blood, and smooths liver qi. This formula warmed her  for a few weeks but is now failing, her pulse is weak, but her tongue looks the most even pink colour than it has ever been, excepting a red tip, possibly due to mental stress.

Would love some suggestions of how to warm her body without overheating, her back and knee respond well to fromula with xu duan and du zhong or other herbs which treat tendon and bone.

This lady also suffers hayfever so I am wondering if if is possible that deficiency of wei qi could be responsible for the coldness or cause the heat from inside to be trapped by pathogenic cold. Any Ideas?

Regards

Lisa
