Irregular Intermittent Pulse

Hello

can anyone give me information as to  how serious the indications of an irregularly intermittinet pulse are?

both the western and chinese literature indicate this as Aortic fibrilation which may or may not be serious. I have a patient presenting with this pulse, a history of high blood pressure, but is also undergoing a high amount of stress at the moment. He is very resistant to getting this checked by the GP, as I have reccomended.

He is currently attending for treatment for an inguinal hernia and has a  history of  lower back and knee pain and Du Petrons syndrome in one hand. His tongue is pale swollen toothmarked, and a red tip, slight purple tinge to body of tongue and slight irregular cracks with a depression over lung area, and pale sides.

I have prescribed Cong chong xia cao to tonify kidney yang and is also indicated to regulate the heart beat, also Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang to lift the prolapse, and Si wu tang to tonifiy and move blood, as well as acupuncture for the above symptoms.

His pulse has changed from having two fast beats iregularly, to one fast beat with a pause, and is now just an iregular pause in beat. I am not sure if this indicates a stabilising of the problem or a worsening, I would appreciate some guidance, as I am concerned, especially as he refuses medical tests to rule out severe heart disfunction.

Regards

Lisa.
