with Debra Betts

Presented by Pro D Seminars (www.pro-d.ca)

March 1 & 2 2008

A two-day hands-on seminar for midwives, massage therapists, physiotherapists, and doulas with Debra Betts, author of The Essential Guide to Acupuncture in Pregnancy & Childbirth.

With a background in nursing, Debra Betts graduated with a diploma in acupuncture from the London College of Acupuncture in 1989. Returning to New Zealand in 1991 she established a private practice specialising in pregnancy and women's health care. Since 1993 she has divided her time between her practice and teaching at the New Zealand School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. She began teaching acupuncture courses to midwives in 1997. Debra lectures internationally on the use of acupuncture in pregnancy and childbirth.

Acupressure is a practical hands-on therapy to promote natural birth. The skills learnt in this workshop will enable those attending to both teach support people techniques for pain relief during labour and learn techniques they can use for specific problems occurring in labour and postnatally.

This workshop covers the use of Acupressure:

  • for cervical ripening
  • to induce labour
  • for pain relief in labour
  • for problems in labour - unestablished labour, cervical lip, posterior position, delayed second stage, retained placenta
  • for postpartum problems - after pains and breast feeding
  • research on the use of acupressure in labour and practical dietary advice from a traditional Chinese medicine perspective for pregnancy and postpartum are also covered.
