Pediatric fever:s usually are high at night, then early in the morning it comes down. If the childs heartbeat is still high and there is no appetite then the fever will be coming back, probably by noon again. use thermometer (add 1 degree if underarm). acu tx Du14, UB12, 13, 20, LI11, ST 40, Shen Guan, and bleed Si Feng by lightly wiping points with a alcohol cotton ball to keep them bleeding a little (proximal finger crease), if you see white stuff come from one, really milk that one. Remember if a child is fevering but acting ok, qi is strong and they should get through fine. Watch the behavior. Do not worry too much about a febrile seizure. If you take them to hospital they will get lumbar puncture. Relax so when they come out of it your reaction does not startle them. Use only cool colored cotton clothes. tylenol is used only for severe discomfort. Usually an underlying cause will be wind. If they do not move their bowels for a full day: hydrate, tap lower shu points, stimulate du 1, give them melons somehow, bathe the child a few degrees cooler than their temp, use enema bulb and give them some h20 (use lubricant around anus, and can try use heat clearing herbal tea). Try rubbing peppermint oil on gb 20/du 16/bl 12. heart rate normally should be around 120-125 up to 1 year, then reduces by 5 beats each year (i.e. 5=100). ginger tea foot bath/rub, or put a peice of ginger between 2 pairs of socks on the bottom of foot. xiao Chai Hu Tang for almost anything infection. Use the Wind/Qi/Life diagnosis on radial side of metacarpal. Wind (proximal) is mild, Qi (middle section of finger) is moderate to serious, and Life is serious and child should go to hospital. Remember to check pulse (use thumb) and respiration rate. Rub the finger a few times to check vessels. Normal is dimly visible. Purple is heat blood congestion. Big vessels with branches and more serious, also if it is curved. Straight vessel is less serious. Boy check left side, girl check the right. External invasion/food stag ever in babies or children will show purple in the eyelids and yintang area, as well, there may be red lips.
meningitis: push on cervical and upper thoracic spine to see if pain. push childs chin down to chest. lift from laying and see if crying starts from neck tension.
Kidney infection: percuss the shu points, then if over the kidneys upsets them...antibiotics time. acu tx Sp6, Sp9 and B40
Cough/respiratory: roll t1-c7 along spine
Earache: gb41-42 will hurt if earache, also sj17, st40
Diagnosing: roll up spine right from bum crack, diagnosis according to shu points.
