Herbal Adverse Effects

OK all, a very important topic here that I have seen personally in our clinic and popping up around different forums etc in the TCM world. Questions such as; which type of patient is more at risk of elevated liver enzymes? do concentrates have the same adverse affects as raw herbal decoctions? Has anyone followed enough of their patients liver enzyme levels throughout treatment to draw any major conclusions? you know people will point the finger at us quite quickly, how do we handle this from a professional and business point of view? anyone have stories of accusations and research that ensued when an adverse reaction occurred? suggestions of practitioners that have more info on this topic that we could invite into TCM TV to give a webinar talk on the subject?

Herb adverse effects
This is obviously a very important topic and is one that everyone one of us should become familiar with.
I would say that Dr. Mazin Al Khafaji is probably one of the leading experts in the west on monitoring adverse reactions to herbs. In his 25+year experience he has been performing liver function tests on all his patients- before and during herbal treatment. I believe he has collected data from over 9000 patients now. Please read this very informative article he wrote on the subject: http://www.jcm.co.uk/media/sample_articles/liverenzymes.pdf?fe=c26af8062486045a09fbef4920cf5c27
