World Toilet Day - Delivering focus on sanitation

All humor aside, Nov. 19 is World Toilet Day. In 2001, the World Toilet Organization announced World Toilet Day. The day is designed to bring focus on the need for correct sanitation. Proper sanitation isn't only a health issue, however the cash invested in sterilization shows economic and social benefits.
Why we have World Toilet Day
World Toilet Day was officially started in 2001. Sanitation is something that 2.6 billion people in the world can’t get to. Sanitation being out of peoples’ lives kills people. 1.8 million each year are killed due to this. Because of lack of sanitation, under-developed countries often have many people dying. 5,000 a day are dying on average in these countries. Most often, women and kids don’t have access to sanitation. They are affected by it the most. In order to encourage awareness of open defecation in third-world countries and to get donations for better sanitation across the world, “The Big Squat” had been organized along with World Toilet Day.
World Toilet Day and economy
The lack of sanitation is what World Toilet Day is supposed to be showing. Deprived areas improve considerably through sanitation. In fact, each and every $1 in sanitation gives an average return of $9 in economic impact. During disasters, one of the first things to be damaged is generally sanitation. The widespread cholera outbreak is happening in Haiti because of the lack of correct sanitation.
Voiced concerns of World Toilet Day
Correct sanitation being shown to people is what World Toilet Day is all about. Controversy will surround it just like every little thing else though. Water or "flush" toilets are often considered the standard of sanitation within the U.S., but that does not mean they're the "best" sanitation. Flushed toilets use a ton of water. In fact, 30 % of water usage comes from this. Composting toilets and waterless toilets not only save money and water, they could be more effective in keeping disease under control when used properly.
