Breast Discharge

Diagnosis  of Breast Discharge:

Abnormal fluid discharge from nipple, may have slight distension. slight discharge during late pregnancy and after delivery is normal, although any other time or large amounts should be treated.

Etiology (causes) of Breast Discharge: Mainly Liver Jing and Stomach Fu

 1. LR Qi stagnation Heat – push fluids out, if injury to vessels has occurred the fluid may be pinkish (blood).

2. ST Qi - milk comes from Spleen Stomach TandT, Stomach Jing goes to nipple – Qi can’t keep fluids in.

Principle of Treatment LR Heat clear Heat soothe Liver ST Qi strengthen Spleen Stomach Qi

Chinese Medicine Differentiation and Treatment of Breast Discharge

Liver Qi stagnation with Heat discharge is pale yellow and thick, may feel hot accompanied with distension of breast, may have slow growth of fetus. Plus – Liver Qi stagnation symptoms (see Appendix 1)

Principle of Treatment: – soothe LR, purge Fire, stop breast discharge

Herbal Medicine Formula: Dan Zhi Xiao Yao San

Stomach Qi Deficiency: discharge is thin, large amount, breasts are soft, may have slow growing fetus. Plus – Spleen Stomach Qi symptoms (see Appendix1)

Principle of Treatment: – nourish mid Jiao Qi to consolidate breasts

Herbal Medicine Formula: Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang or Ba Zhen Tang
