Herbal Concentrates

Ryan's picture

great audio to listen to for anyone using Herbal Concentrates !

interesting to note that the cloying herbs have a lower concentration than light drying herbs. Eric Brand mentioned that Shu Di only has a concentration of 2:1 instead of the average 5:1 ! The minerals may only have a 1:1 concentration! we would still need to use alot concentrate to get good results.

Anyways, worth the listen

Herbal Concentration Dosage ?

AcuGuru's picture

A quick clarification on Herbal Concentration Dosage.

When prescribing blood nourishing herbs (shu di, he shou wu, long yan rou, ...) in concentrated powder we should always use a higher dosage! When prescribing aromatic herbs (Pei Lan, Huo Xiang, Cang Zhu, ...) in concentration we can use less. How does this translate when prescribing a formula like Gui Pi Tang or Ba Zhen Tang? are the dosages already modified accordingly?

what type of dosage do we use to get the proper raw equivalent ? I haven't used much concentrated powders as of yet but this is sounding more and more difficult to use concentrates when compared to raw decoctions to get the same therapeutic effect.

Thanks
